Social clubs in India are scattered across cities as relics of the British Raj, places where people made their first tentative attempts to bridge cultural barriers. Each has turned into its own entity of sorts; funnily enough, they turned the one in Versova (Mumbai) into a bar…

Cut to Versova Social Boston: a pop-up series by Altamash Gaziyani (that’s me!) rooted in bringing South Asian flavors to life in cocktails, food, and community experiences across Boston, hand in hand with some of your favorite bars around town. The masalas are ground by hand, the drinks always come with snacks, the memories flow freely, and the doors are open to all; I can’t wait to see you at the next one.

what’s the theme

After a cracking Bakri Eid celebration at Merai, we’ll be throwing together Boston’s first Desi Pride Celebration, featuring desi drag queens, VSB cocktails at the bar, and contributions / conversations from local non-profits and South Asian / AAPI grassroots organizations for you to get to know and engage with 🏳️‍🌈

when & where

We’ll be at Shore Leave in the South End, one of Boston’s signature escapist tropical bars, featuring fresh sushi, playful share plates, craveable burgers, and colorful tropical drinks. We’ll be on theme 🫡 // Book your table here!

vsb's '26 plans 〰️

VSB this year for me is about picking meaningful opportunities for desi folks, QPOC folks, and Bostonians to gather together and let their accents fall, let their bodies move, let their heads bobble, and their laughter and joy take space, and their memories flow.

Channeling this through celebrating festivals that resonated with me throughout my childhood and that bridged religious, class-based, and sociopolitical gaps felt instinctively like the best way to do this, and I’m so excited I get to this year 🥰

I’m working with some of the loveliest, most talented, and truly community-minded immigrants, queers, vendors, organizations, and bar humans to make it all happen. I can’t wait to tell you more about what we’ll be doing at each of these events, but for now, here are some dates to hold in your calendars 🫶🏽
